National Poetry Month: In 1984 Robert Penn Warren noted that "To have great poets there must be great audiences."
--- With the ku*kuroo** festivals we would like to achieve what Sylas Goldean describes in his forward to A Book of Ku as interdependent self-sufficiency . . . where the groups' assorted beliefs, practices, and traditions were not only kept alive, but refreshed and refined by the hybrid vigor which often obtains in conditions of fertile proximity." (A Book of Ku, by Jim Dodge) The objective of the ku*kuroo** festivals, (yes, a few more are in the planning stages), is to create a moving vortex, or epicenter, to the Mythical State of Jefferson. A sort of travelling circus into which one can enter and engage, and withdraw back into the matrix of life outside the Mythical State of Jefferson. This is a concept espoused by Gurdjieff, that of coming and going (Meetings with Remarkable Men, 1979). This action, at a fundamental level is the inherent action in the yin/yang symbol, symbolized in the Trinity and a root system (push/pull) at first cause. Some call it "the suchness" or gravity or the body without organs or rhizome or . . . but that's another blog. Ku is a form of #micropoetry in which the poem is 7 syllables and the title is longer than the poem. Kuroo means "to gather". In the beginning was The Word. The Word gives form and emphasis to thought, thought to action. The ku*kuroo** Festivals are celebrations of the poet in each of us, manifesting in infinite individual forms. At Ku*kuroo** #1, we'll have some poetry, films, technology and music. At ku*kuroo** #2 in Monterrey we'll add more of these attractions, and skating, sculpture, painting and photography. Then on to Boston! We're about to begin a kickstarter campaign to raise some funds to help cover the costs of putting these events on. If you get the "yeah, baby, yeah!" vibe and want to invest a few bucks we'll send you a Walter the White Buffalo Mythical State of Jefferson (below) bumper sticker and a XX Broadside (above), sort of our version of Bitcoin. Poets, if you post a KU POEM at the KU YU? link above, we'll make it into a KU movie and screen it on the 7th. We think of the ku*kuroo** like John and Yoko's concept of NEWTOPIA, poetry in action for everyone. Poets RULE~let's ku-create! See you in the XX. |
